Ski touring Tête Blanche in 2 days

Located in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, the Tête Blanche (3,487 m) offers a magnificent introduction to high-mountain ski touring. This route links two major, iconic glacier basins in the Chamonix Valley: the Argentière Glacier and the Tour Glacier. Along the way, the itinerary crosses cols and glaciers, providing a gradual immersion into the world of alpinism. From the Albert 1st Refuge, situated opposite the impressive faces of the Aiguille du Chardonnet, the ascent leads to a panoramic summit overlooking the Trient Glacier. Combining glacier travel, an overnight in a mountain refuge, and a long descent to the village of Le Tour, this outing offers a complete high-mountain ski touring experience in the Mont Blanc massif.

Program

The evening before – Welcome in Saint-Gervais
Meet at 6:30 PM at the Saint-Gervais Guides’ Office to meet your guide, check your equipment, and prepare for this ski touring outing in the Mont Blanc massif.

Day 1 – Argentière Glacier Basin and Albert 1st Refuge
Depart in the morning from Argentière to access the Plan Joran and Bochard lifts. The route begins with an ascent to the Col des Rachasses, followed by a beautiful descent that reaches the vast Argentière Glacier. At the heart of this glacial basin, dominated by the major faces of the Mont Blanc massif, the ski tour resumes toward the Col du Passon (3,028 m). Skis are then carried over a short, steeper section to cross the col. From there, the route descends into the Tour basin and reaches the Albert 1st Refuge, situated at the foot of the Aiguille du Chardonnet. This stage allows you to explore a spectacular glacial environment and observe the major alpine climbs that tower above the refuge.
Elevation gain: approximately 900 m – Elevation loss: approximately 600 m

Day 2 – Tête Blanche (3,487 m)
From the Albert 1st Refuge, the ski touring route continues across the Tour Glacier. The consistent slopes allow a gradual ascent to the Tête Blanche. This summit offers a remarkable panorama over the Trient Glacier and the major peaks of the Swiss Alps, including the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn on clear days. After a break at the summit, the descent follows the left bank of the Tour Glacier before reaching the village of Le Tour. This long descent of nearly 1,700 meters is one of the most beautiful in the Mont Blanc massif.
Elevation gain: approximately 750 m – Elevation loss: approximately 1,700 m

The guides may adjust the itinerary according to the weather, mountain conditions, and participants’ abilities.

The route provides an excellent introduction to high-mountain ski touring. The itinerary allows you to traverse multiple glaciers, cross cols, and practice glacier travel techniques.
