Ski touring around the Bonatti Refuge

At the foot of the Grandes Jorasses, the Italian Val Ferret offers exceptional terrain for ski mountaineering. Dominated by the Mont Blanc massif’s southern slopes, this vast valley reveals varied routes leading to numerous panoramic summits. From the Bonatti Refuge, situated at 2,025 meters, several ascents allow access to beautiful combes and cols with views over the Aosta Alps. Accompanied by a high-mountain guide, this weekend offers two days of ski touring in an authentic alpine setting. Combining progression on the slopes of Val Ferret with close-up views of the Grandes Jorasses’ major faces, the experience blends panoramic routes, a welcoming refuge, and Italian cuisine.

Day 1 – Tête Entre Deux Sauts (2,728 m)

After crossing the massif, the route reaches the Italian Val Ferret, a vast valley dominated by the south face of the Grandes Jorasses and the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif. From the valley floor, with skis on, the route gradually ascends toward the Bonatti Refuge at 2,025 meters. After a break at the refuge to drop off some gear, the progression continues toward the Tête Entre Deux Sauts. The ascent crosses wide snow-covered slopes offering an open panorama of the massif’s major faces. From the summit, the view extends over the ridges of Val Ferret and the hanging glaciers of the Grandes Jorasses. The col provides an outstanding viewpoint over the Aosta Alps and the surrounding valleys. After a break at the col, the descent offers nearly 1,500 meters of skiing, alternating wide slopes and more wooded sections before reaching the valley floor of Val Ferret.
