Details

The Matterhorn, with its isolated pyramidal shape, is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. Its ascent via the Hörnli Ridge from Zermatt is a major objective for any experienced mountaineer.

Right from the hut, challenges appear: steep rock steps, 4th-degree climbing, fixed ropes, sharp ridges, snow and ice slopes… The effort is sustained and continuous, both ascending and descending, all above 4000 m altitude.

This demanding ascent requires excellent physical condition and solid mountaineering experience. In return, it offers a unique adventure on one of the most photogenic summits in the Alps, with spectacular views over Valais, the Monte Rosa, and the entire Swiss and Italian Alps.

Dates

Departures every day from early July to mid-September, depending on conditions.

Registration and payment

Directly on our website or using the dated and signed registration form, accompanied by a 40% deposit and any optional insurance fees. The balance must be paid 60 days before departure.

Supervision and participants

Maximum 1 person per guide. You will be led by a mountain guide or a certified guide-in-training.

Physical and technical level

Have excellent physical condition and experience with crampon use on PD–AD climbs between 3500 and 4000 m. Basic climbing skills are required. This is a sustained ridge climb requiring solid mountaineering experience. Thorough preparation is essential for this ascent, which is intended for very fit individuals. You may be walking for up to around 12 hours per day, so prepare with long-duration cardio training. Endurance sports: cycling, running.

And don’t forget that for 2 days you will be hiking with an 8-kilogram backpack, which significantly increases the effort required, so during your training outings make sure to walk with this additional weight.

You will be traveling on a high-mountain route and must be aware of the hazards associated with this activity (crevasses, serac fall, rockfall, avalanches, very low temperatures). We are available to answer any questions you may have.
