The day before – Welcome in Saint-Gervais
Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Saint-Gervais guides’ office. Meet with the guide, check the equipment, and briefing.
Day 1 – Ascension of the Lames Fontaine (2,766 m)
Early departure from Saint-Gervais to Chamonix (30 min). Access to Plan de l’Aiguille via the Aiguille du Midi cable car. Approach hike along the moraine of the Blaitière Glacier (1.5 hours) to reach the base of the climb. Ascend the Lames Fontaine: approximately 250 m of rocky ridge with crack climbing (5b required, up to 6a), 19 short pitches, and 4 rappels. Return via the north-west ledge of the Blaitière and descent by cable car in the afternoon.
The guides may adjust the itinerary according to the weather, mountain conditions, and participants’ abilities.
Rediscovered and equipped in the 1990s, the Lames Fontaine form a true high-altitude climbing school. The route links 19 short pitches, alternating cracks, ridges, and small rappels, in a uniquely airy atmosphere.
It is a valuable experience for already initiated climbers: the granite here is exceptional, and the route offers the chance to tackle technical sections (up to 6a in cracks). All of this unfolds in a wild setting, facing the glaciers and the great walls of the Aiguilles de Chamonix.
A perfect route to progress in alpine climbing while exploring an off-the-beaten-path itinerary, away from the crowds, Supervised by a mountain guide.
