Dôme des Glaciers and Mont Tondu

On the south-western fringes of the Mont Blanc massif, the Robert Blanc Hut overlooks the Chapieux Valley in a pristine setting. This 3-day mountaineering program invites you to climb two emblematic summits—the Dôme des Glaciers and Mont Tondu—amid glaciers, ridges, and exposed mountain trails.

Details

On the border between Savoie and the Aosta Valley, the Robert Blanc Hut (2,750 m) offers an ideal starting point for a mountaineering stay away from the busy routes of the massif. From the Chapieux Valley, the ascent follows a high-altitude trail leading to a viewpoint overlooking the Glacier Valley and facing the Tarentaise massif.

Over these three days, you will move across varied terrain—snow, ice, and rock—roped up with your high mountain guide. The Dôme des Glaciers (3,592 m), an elegant and panoramic summit, can be climbed via the Lanchettes Ridge or by its glacier. The Pain de Sucre of Mont Tondu (3,169 m) offers a more airy ascent, punctuated by equipped sections and easy ridges.

A complete and wild itinerary, ideal for deepening your mountaineering skills while discovering the richness of the southern side of Mont Blanc. Three days of effort and shared experience in the heart of an authentic mountain environment.

Supervision and participants

A maximum of 3 people per guide. Departure guaranteed for the group option with a minimum of 2 participants. You will be guided by a high mountain guide or an aspirant guide.

Physical and technical level

Some prior high-mountain experience is a plus, but this program can also suit beginners. Very good physical preparation is required for this ascent; it is intended for fit, endurance-oriented participants. You may be required to hike for up to around 8 hours per day at a sustained pace, so you should prepare by practicing long-duration cardio activities. Endurance sports such as cycling, running, or long hikes are recommended. Do not forget that over the 3 days you will be hiking with an 8 kg backpack, which significantly increases the effort required, so during your training outings, practice hiking with this additional weight.

You will be traveling on an unmarked high-mountain route and must be aware of the hazards associated with this activity (crevasses, serac falls, rockfall, avalanches, very low temperatures).

We are available to answer any questions you may have.
