Three-day Fiz Tour

The Tour of the Fiz offers a three-day immersion in one of the most unique environments of the Mont Blanc region: the Désert de Platé. Between hidden lakes, grassy cirques, historic trails, and off-trail variants, the route showcases the massif’s geological and scenic richness. Each day offers a fresh perspective on the Mont Blanc range, visible from numerous natural viewpoints. Traditional huts nestled in the valleys add a warm atmosphere to this multi-day hike. An ideal way to discover a preserved area at the crossroads of the Aiguilles Rouges and the Fiz.

Program

Evening before departure – Arrival in Saint-Gervais
Meeting at 6:30 PM at the Saint Gervais Guides’ office for a briefing on the trek and practical information (meeting place and time for the following day).

Day 1 – Lac de Pormenaz
We depart early in the morning from the chalet of the Passy Nature Reserve, at Plaine Joux. At the meeting point between the Aiguilles Rouges massif (metamorphic rock) and the Fiz range (limestone massif), the route alternates between paths and trails, dotted with lakes. At Lac de Pormenaz, we explore a wild valley via an easy off-trail section. The day continues to Col d’Anterne, then descends to the lake of the same name, before reaching the hut.
Elevation gain +1,100 m / loss -650 m
Actual walking time: 7 h

Day 2 – Col d’Anterne and Vallon de Sales
The route starts at the Alfred Wills Hut, with a moderate ascent to reach Col de Sales. You then traverse varied landscapes, between alpine pastures and ridges, heading toward the Sales Hut. The descent is relatively long but pleasant, crossing wild and preserved areas. This stage offers a full immersion in nature, with numerous waterfalls along the way.
Elevation gain +300 m / loss -500 m
Actual walking time: 5 h

Day 3 – Panoramic Views of Mont Blanc
The route, partly off-trail, becomes more mineral and intimate, offering a stunning approach to the summit of the Désert de Platé. This day is both contemplative and educational: from panoramic photography to fossil hunting, you will not be disappointed. We then descend the long Platé valley, facing Mont Blanc, returning to Plaine Joux, our starting point.
Elevation gain +750 m / loss -1,300 m
Walking time: 7 h

Elevation gains and walking times are approximate and may vary. Depending on the weather and participants’ level, the guide may modify the itinerary and choose alternative routes.

As a reminder, the cancellation insurance covers you from the moment you register until the day of your course, in case something happens and you are unable to attend. We apply cancellation fees as specified on our registration form and in our terms of sale. These fees may be reimbursed by the cancellation insurance if your reason for cancelling is covered.

If you pay by credit card, feel free to check the insurance included with it.
