Night in a mountain hut

Spending a night in a mountain hut offers a different way to experience the mountains: the calm of the alpine pastures, the evening light on the Dômes de Miage, and the gentle glow of sunrise at altitude. This experience is offered at two levels: For relaxed hikers or families with children, a night at the Miage hut, set in a lush green environment at the foot of the glaciers.
For experienced hikers, a perched night at the Plan Glacier hut, intimate and airy,
overlooking the Miage valley.
Two options, two atmospheres, but the same promise: to enjoy a timeless escape.

Program

Relaxed hikers’ option – Night at the Miage hut

The day before – Welcome in Saint-Gervais
Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Saint-Gervais Guides Office for the briefing.

Day 1 – Miage pastures
Departure from Le Champel in the early afternoon: after an ascent through the forest along a beautiful balcony trail overlooking the Gruvaz gorges, we reach the Miage valley and its alpine chalets. This green haven, with its streams where we spend the night, lies at the foot of the imposing Dômes de Miage.
Elevation gain 450 m – Actual walking time: 3 hours

Day 2 – Bionnassay Glacier
What a beautiful, steady ascent up to the Col du Tricot! At the col, a majestic landscape opens up before us. Descending through the rolling alpine pastures of Tricot, we reach the suspension bridge over the Bionnassay Glacier. After this short detour, we continue downhill, from waterfall to waterfall, through the forest, returning gently to Le Champel.
Elevation gain 600 m / Elevation loss 950 m – Actual walking time: 6 hours

Experienced hikers’ option – Night at the Plan Glacier hut

The day before – Welcome in Saint-Gervais
Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Saint-Gervais Guides Office for the briefing.

Day 1 – Bionnassay Glacier – Plan Glacier Hut
Departure from Le Champel early in the morning to reach the Col du Tricot via the suspension bridge over the Bionnassay Glacier. At the col, a superb view opens up over the Dômes de Miage and the Miage valley. We then follow the airy Source au Comte balcony trail, equipped with a few cables to facilitate progress facing the Dômes de Miage. Overnight at the Plan Glacier hut, a perched refuge with around twenty beds.
Elevation gain 1600 m / Elevation loss 100 m – Actual walking time: 6 hours

Day 2 – Miage alpine pastures
Descent via the Ours moraine down to the Miage alpine pastures, where the hut’s blueberry tarts are a tempting reward! After the picnic, we follow a balcony trail overlooking the Gruvaz gorges to return to Le Champel.
Elevation gain 100 m / Elevation loss 1500 m – Actual walking time: 5 hours

Elevation gains and walking times are given as an indication and may vary. Depending on weather conditions and the participants’ level, the mountain leader may adjust the itinerary.

The Miage valley is one of the most beautiful hanging alpine pastures in the region, while the Plan Glacier hut dominates the valley from an airy ridge facing the Dômes de Miage. Both options offer a different experience: gentle and family-friendly on one side, more alpine and committing on the other. An invitation to disconnect, observe the glaciers, and savour the magic of an evening at altitude.

Cancellation

We also offer optional “cancellation” insurance at a rate of €12/day. This insurance does not take into account the sporting nature of our trips. It must be purchased at the time of registration to take effect. As a reminder, the cancellation insurance covers you from the moment you register until the day of your course, in case something happens and you are unable to attend. We apply cancellation fees as specified on our registration form and in our terms of sale. These fees may be reimbursed by the cancellation insurance if your reason for cancelling is covered.

If you pay by credit card, feel free to check the insurance included with it.

As a reminder, in the event of cancellation you must file your claim with the insurer within 5 days of the accident or reason for cancelling, otherwise it will not be valid (then check whether the reason for cancellation is covered).
