Saint-Gervais Thermal Baths Via Ferrata

A fun and progressively challenging via ferrata, ideal for adventurous beginners and thrill-seekers looking to experience the mountains in a supervised environment.

Program

Your adventure begins with a meeting at the Thermal Park or another agreed meeting point in Saint-Gervais, where you’ll meet your guide for a safety briefing and equipment check. A short approach walk then leads to the start of the via ferrata. From there, you’ll make your way along the route, climbing a series of fixed cables, metal rungs, footbridges, and suspension bridges while enjoying the spectacular setting of the Bonnant Gorge.

Section 1
Difficulty: AD+ (Fairly Difficult)
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
Escape Route 1: Mick Bozon exit, located at the Thermal Baths footbridge at the end of this section.

Section 2
Difficulty: D+ (Difficult+)
Duration: Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
Escape Route 2: Maurice Lenoir exit.
Escape Route 3: Thierry Broisat exit.

Section 3
Difficulty: TD+ (Very Difficult+)
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
This section requires previous climbing experience, excellent physical fitness, and confidence on steep, exposed terrain.
The route finishes beneath the ruins of the Châtelet.

Located in the Bonnant Gorge, the Thermal Park Via Ferrata is easily accessible directly from the village of Saint-Gervais. The route features a mix of vertical sections, overhangs, and suspension bridges, offering an exciting introduction to climbing techniques using fixed cables and metal rungs.
This via ferrata is suitable for a wide range of abilities. The first section is ideal for beginners looking for their first challenge, while the second and third sections provide a more demanding experience for confident and experienced climbers.

Supervision and participants

Group size
Section 1: Maximum of 3 participants per guide. Sections 2 & 3: Maximum of 1–2 participants per guide.
All trips are led by a certified mountain guide or a qualified climbing instructor, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

Physical and technical level

The Thermal Baths Via Ferrata in Saint-Gervais is suitable for accompanied beginners as well as intermediate via ferrata enthusiasts looking to experience a vertical climbing route. Previous experience in via ferrata or rock climbing is required.
The entire route is equipped with fixed safety cables, metal rungs, and suspension bridges. Participants must be at least 1.50 m (4 ft 11 in) tall to take part.

It is, however, recommended to:

  • not be prone to vertigo,
  • be comfortable on exposed sections,
  • Participants must be able to follow the guide’s or instructor’s safety instructions throughout the activity.

Prices

€140 for a private group of 1 to 3 participants for Section 1.
€210 for 1 to 2 participants for Sections 1 & 2, or the full route, depending on your experience and ability.

Insurance

Insurance is not included; you must have liability coverage to participate in these outings. We recommend being covered by assistance, search, and repatriation insurance. If you do not have it, we can direct you to specialized providers (approximately €5 per day).

  • Gloves (via ferrata-style mitts or cycling gloves) for comfort

Practical tips

  • Avoid smooth or worn-out shoes.
  • Tie back long hair and remove any items that could hinder movement.
  • Bring a lightweight windbreaker depending on the conditions.
