The day before – Welcome in Saint-Gervais
Meet at 6:30 pm at the Saint-Gervais guides’ office to meet your guide and prepare the equipment.
Day 1 – Glacier hike and basic techniques
Departure for Italy and cable car ascent to Pointe Helbronner (3,462 m). Glacier hike on the Géant Glacier. Learning crampon technique, rope-team travel, and basic safety skills. Night at the Torino refuge (3,375 m).
Day 2 – Alpine ridge traverse
From the refuge, early departure for an introduction to rock and mixed terrain: depending on conditions, traverse of the Aiguilles d’Entrèves, the Aiguilles Marbrées, or the north ridge of the Petit Flambeau. Return by cable car in mid-afternoon.
The guides may adjust the itinerary according to the weather, mountain conditions, and participants’ abilities.
The mountaineering initiation course at the Torino refuge is a perfect experience for your first steps in the high mountains. Over two days, you’ll be guided along accessible yet varied routes, learning to use crampons, an ice axe, and safety techniques on glaciers and rocky terrain.
The Pointe Helbronner area, at over 3,400 m, offers ideal ground for progression: the Glacier du Géant, easy ridges, and natural viewpoints over the surrounding peaks. The Torino refuge (3,375 m), comfortable and panoramic, serves as a high-altitude base to explore the Aiguilles Marbrées, the Aiguilles d’Entrèves, or the Petit Flambeau.
This educational and inspiring course paves the way for future, more committing ascents in the Mont Blanc range.
