Ice climbing day

This day allows you to advance your skills, whether climbing as second on the rope or learning the basics of autonomy. With guidance from a high-mountain guide, each route is chosen according to your interests and level. Between wild valleys and sculpted icefalls, this day provides an ideal immersion in ice climbing.

Program

The day before Arrival in Saint-Gervais
Meeting at 6:30 PM at the Saint-Gervais Guides’ Office to meet your guide.

D-Day
Early morning departure from Saint-Gervais to the chosen site with your guide, selected the evening before based on conditions (it is customary for the client to drive the guide).

Physical and technical level

Be in good physical condition.

A day for those with some prior ice climbing experience or who have completed a beginner course. Feel free to contact us if you have any doubts about the required level.

Prices

Daily guide fee: €435

The price includes:

  • Guidance by a mountain guide

The price does not include:

  • Technical equipment
  • Picnics
  • Any required lift passes for you and the guide
  • Transport to the designated location with the guide (maximum 1 h 30 min by car)
  • Anything not listed under “the price includes”

Insurance

Insurance is not included; you must have civil liability coverage to participate in these outings. We recommend having assistance, search, and repatriation insurance; if you do not, we can direct you to specialized providers (approximately €5 per day).

Equipment list

  • Rigid-soled mountaineering boots (not too tight and compatible with crampons) + crampons
  • Helmet
  • Ice climbing axes
  • Harness with carabiner
  • Gaiters
  • Backpack
  • Warm clothing that effectively protects against the wind:
    Waterproof and windproof Gore-Tex pants and jacket, down jacket, and thick fleece
  • Technical base layers: long-sleeve shirt and warm leggings
  • Beanie and neck gaiter (Buff)
  • 2 pairs of gloves: lightweight gloves + warm, waterproof gloves
  • Sunscreen and lip balm + sunglasses
  • Thermos with hot drink, energy bars and/or dried fruit
  • Personal first aid kit: painkillers, Compeed blister patches, Elastoplast, bandages. There’s no need to carry a more extensive kit unless advised by your doctor.

Rendez-vous

You will meet the guides the day before departure at the Saint-Gervais Guides Office (43 rue du Mont Blanc, 74170 Saint-Gervais), located inside the tourist office in the village center, at 6:30 p.m.
